The History of Compass;

Compass was set up in 1996 as a small self help group for 12 individuals with learning disabilities. The group secured funding in 1999 and at this time became registered as a charity and company limited by guarantee. This enabled the group to set up an office base and employ 2 members of staff. The group began developing into new geographical areas locally and has continued to develop over the years. We now employ 8 staff, have approximately 25 volunteers and the membership of the organization has grown dramatically with approximately 240 individuals now accessing services from Compass on a regular basis.

OUR AIMS;

To enhance personal choice and decision making and to expand social involvement and social capital.
To increase the standard of choice of education, training and employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities.
To develop positive citizenship, participation and social inclusion.

OUR VISION:

We want people with a learning disability in our area;

To be confident and able to speak up for themselves,
To have access to a range of services including employment, training, social and recreational activities,
To play an active role in their local community,
To have their voices clearly heard.
