WE CAN (Training)





The WE(Work Enablement)CAN Project is funded by the European Union (through the European Social Fund), the Depeartment for the Economy  and the Northern Health and Social Care Trust.

Our Social Enterprises offer a range of experiences and work-based skills enhancement opportunities in a REAL work environment.

WE CAN provides up to 2 year placements within our social enterprises.

Before coming to us, many individuals have just left school or have been in daycare for a long time and are unfamiliar with having a job or being part of a team.  Funded by ESF, DfE and NHSCT, the WE CAN project enables trainees to receive real, valuable work experiences, qualifications and to gain new skills and confidence to enable them to progress into other areas of supported employment or volunteering opportunities.

Improving Employability

Do you have a Learning Disability, Autism or Mental Health issue and would like to consider work in the future?

Through the WE CAN programme we will provide you with a person-centred approach, guiding you on your path towards employment.

We offer a flexible placement of up to 2 years which provides you with “on the job” work experience in a real work environment. We will work with you to help you enhance your employability through;

  • Confidence building
  • Training
  • Qualifications
  • Job sampling
  • Signposting towards employment.

As a Trainee…

WE CAN trainees benefit from taking part in a training programme tailored to their individual needs. This allows them to develop their interpersonal skills, timekeeping, team working, confidence building and developing their self-esteem and aspirations whilst gaining real work experience.

In addition they will develop their skills through vocational qualifications with ASDAN, OCN and other awarding bodies.

Job sampling opportunities will give an insight into types of employment and experience of the working world.

The engagement with employers will enhance the trainee’s experience.

Research shows that 65% of people with a learning disability and associated issues want to work, with only 7% currently in paid employment.

With the right training and support our trainees can play a valuable role in the workforce and enhance your staff team. Employers are key to unlocking the potential of our trainees.

Derek and Turan

“In February this year Derek started a job sampling placement with us, during this time he showed a willingness to learn and gained many new skills within his role as a waiter. He has become more confident and efficient in his role every week.  In July this year we were delighted to be in a position to offer Derek part-time paid employment.  Since then he has became a huge part of the staff team and a very dedicated employee”.

 “I really enjoy my time on the WE Can programme, my favourite job is the painting of furniture with Steven at the Up-cycling project. This year I was very proud to gain my Level 2 award in health and safety. I hope to continue to increase my skills and experience. My goal in the future is to be employed as a painter and decorator”.
